The New Confessions of an Economic Hit Man Audible Audio Edition John Perkins Tom Taylorson Inc Blackstone Audio Books Reviews

  • Why is the world is filled with avarice and greed? That is for another book to explain. This book tells how the practitioners of greed put their pressures upon the nations of the third-world. The man who tells the story was one of these people who applied the pressure, very seductively. When you have finished reading this astonishing non-fiction book, you may hate the empire that America has become. All those seemingly innocent entities that are supposed to be there to lift-up the third-world are their only to entrap them. Make them ready for the corporations to swallow up their resources. This is not a happy book, but a necessary one.
  • My eyes have been open for quite a while already, so to me this is not an eye opener. This is something that would assure you that you were right suspecting about many dirty things that governments have done. The sad thing is that nothing has changed. In fact, as the book explains, China is following the footsteps of the U.S. now and doing the same trying to "takeover" the poor and unsuspecting countries. The problem is that the people who are doning these kind of things are above the law, somewhere in a dark room, or in the middle of the desert they tie you up bit you up and kill you. And there is nothing that you can do to save yourself let alone a country. Read it, understand it, be open minded and if you are strong enough and you have the will and the energy... try changing the world. I know that I can't do it. I tried talking to people but they are brain dead, "give me my toaster" type of personalities. Good luck to humans. The psychopaths rule the world unfortunately.
  • Perkins’s book is shocking even for those like me, who have read a lot about the ways and modes of the forces in the U.S. who rule the word by bribing, intimidating, if „necessary” killing leaders of (mostly) emerging nations who do not abide, do not listen to „good words”. Shocking because it reveals the forces from inside and makes it absolutely clear that the defining forces are „hidden” corporations, lending institutions and government agencies in their hands. The name created for them – corporatocracy – is just wonderful, expresses splendidly the nature, the whole picture of this barbaric might. I have learnt a lot again, thanks to Mr. Perkin!
  • If you don't read about the international crooks you will not recognize them at home.  The author worked many years as an EHM. He was trained to go into third world or struggling countries to inflate growth projections from large infrastructure projects  ( Saudi Arabia, Ecuador, Panama etc). These projects would then be funded by the World Bank and others and the country would be loaded up with debt.  . The money lent would go to US firms to do the work (of course some $  would find its way into select in country pockets).  The US engineering/construction company owners would pocket huge profits.

The projects would under deliver and the country would not be able to pay even the interest on these huge loans.  The US would pressure the govts to take on more debt, vote certain ways at the UN , buy more US products and so on.. The peoples' lives would get worse not better. ( shades of the banana king and 1MDB )  If the govts did not play ball with US plans, regime change, assassination etc. would happen (Chile, Honduras, Ecuador, Panama.  Wrap a large disinformation campaign about this all.   You could not make this stuff up.  The author points out now that the same tricks are going on in US states with big projects and perhaps even in Canada.

A potent read, albeit the author is not concise enough for me. The story speaks very loud about the dangers of these large US companies, the military industrial complex and US policy.  Evidently China is following the same US playbook.
  • This Economic Hit Man biography shows how the world operates as a gigantic business enterprise. Mammon--profit, raw power, deception. How easy it is for a young person starting off with an idealistic attitude to fool themselves about their motivations when the glittering big bucks are dangled before their eyes. He started off by being seduced by a company Mata Hari. The powers running this enterprise study a person's weaknesses and use them all against you to manipulate, threaten, entice, tempt a person against their better nature. The first casualty in a long line of casualites was his marriage and his idealism. He seemed to be trying to make reparation somehow through his book, but the book did not leave you feeling uplifted.
  • The information you will read in this book is a eye opener to what's really going on, not only in the world, but in our own personal bank accounts. John Perkins tells the ugly truth of how people around the world, and now Americans, are being extorted by their governments and international corporations in a scramble for money and power. No one is immune to being a victim of the process that continues to insidiously make the elite richer and take down the working class. After telling in detail how the hitmen work, he offers a solution that the American people can do, if they choose to save themselves.
  • Would write a longer review if it wasn't so late. Basically, he gives precise insights from very detailed and well-organized experiences of working within this system. I gained a better understanding of the psychology/worldview of different people who had participated in such work, and how many expressed a degree of denial & naïveté towards the effects of their actions upon people's lives, and towards the notion that those effects need not be inevitable.

I hope to add more details later, as John gave so much expert wisdom and theory in this book and I'm so thankful for that. Found out recently that he also chatted once or twice on our TINY town radio show from all the way across the continent O _O A very chill & accomplished man.
